MEACC Annual Conference

Keynote Speaker: Greg LeClair, Municipal Planning Biologist with the Beginning with Habitat (BwH) program of MEDIFW.

​

Greg will discuss how BwH municipal assistance, mapping and other tools have been applied to improve conservation outcomes for communities across the State. One example is help with applying for a community resilience grant for open space plans.

 

Presentation 2: Amy Farnham, Asst. Director for Policy and Research at Maine Farmland Trust.

​

Amy will explain how town boards and committees have an important role to play in protecting farmland from being lost to development and helping farms thrive. She will share strategies and examples how municipalities can support local agriculture through land use planning, property tax programs, conservation easement, municipal farmland leasing and farmer engagement in local government. Solar development will also be a topic.

​

Conservation Commission Share Time: Each attending conservation commission will share through a spokesperson what and how they’ve been doing and any concerns or lessons learned. Attendees of past annual conferences have found “share time” invaluable.

Networking Lunch: We will be offering lunch along with an opportunity to network with other conservation commissioners.​                                                                                                      ​

Location: The conference will be in the Morrell Meeting Room at Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick located at 23 Pleasant St., which is on the corner of Pleasant St. and Middle St. After passing the front of the library take an immediate right on Middle St. The entrance to the Morrell Meeting Room fronts Middle St.
